Add it to your travel notebook

Before the Holy Week starts, there is a ‘Solemne Función’ in honour of ‘Nuestra Señora de la Soledad’ on ‘Viernes de Dolores’ on the Hermitage of ‘La Soledad’.

As it is tradition, on Palm Sunday, the palms and the olive trees are blessed in order to celebrate the Holly Mass. This event takes place in the Hermitage of ‘Stmo. Cristo de la Misericordia’.

Although it has less follow-up than the rest of the Holy Week, the three first days (Holy Monday, Thursday and Wednesday) a Mass is celebrated in the Church of the town. Besides, the Triduum is celebrated in honour of ‘Ntro. Padre Jesús Nazareno’ in the Hermitage of ‘Ntra. Sra. De la Estrella’.

During Holy Thursday, the Lauds are recited, and confessions are made in the Church in the morning. Later, the Holy Communion is celebrated in the residences I and II, as in the Hermitage of the ‘Virgen de la Estrella’. At night, the ‘Santa Cena’ is celebrated in the Church, remembering the washing of the feet.

On Holy Friday, is the day of mourning because of the death of Jesus: the Holy Hour of prayer, the prayer of Lauds and the office of lectures in the Church are celebrated at the first hours of the day. Then, the Passion and Death of Jesus is celebrated in the residences I and II, as in the Hermitage of ‘Virgen de la Estrella’. An hour later is the celebration of the Passion and Death of Jesus in the Church.

On Holy Saturday, the prayer of Lauds is celebrated again, and some confessions are made in the Church of ‘Hermandad del Santo Sepulcro’. Later, the Easter Vigil is celebrated in the chapel of the Virgin, which is finally repeated in the evening in the Church.

Celebrating Jesus’ victory over death, on Easter Sunday, Holy Mass is celebrated in the Church, as well as the baptisms of children whose parents have requested it.

This is the end of the Holy Week, however, on Easter Monday, a Holy Mass is celebrated for the deceased brothers of the Brotherhood of the ‘Santo Sepulcro’, in the Hermitage of ‘La Soledad’.
