On 23 March, D.Pedro I de Castilla died in Montiel during the famous ‘Batalla de Montiel’ against his brother Enrique. In order to remember this important historical event, from 1975 the inhabitants of Montiel celebrate this event known as ‘Jornadas de Recreación Histórica’ during the three following days after the death of the king.
In this touristic event, this city is transformed into the medieval period, where tourists can participate in different activities and recreations that are played in different places of the town, such as processions, flag oaths, contests, dances, plays and the famous recreation of the ‘Batalla de Montiel’. Nowadays, it has been declared of Regional Touristic Interest.
